Recently I have discovered the value of space like never before...
I cleared out an entire wardrobe (because it was full of woodborer ... shhh don't tell a soul - oops now you know). And in the process I chucked out more than half of my possessions contained therein. I gave them away, I threw out the papers, and the documents; I gave away some sentimental stuff and many clothes .
It was an exercise in prioritzing. And it was sooo therapeutic!
The cupboard was torn down. I'm grateful for that woodborer.
Sometimes it takes unbearable discomfort to change out habits. To throw out what we accumulate over the years. We don't need it , but we think we might - someday. So we live in a somewhat oppressed state - kinda feeling overwhelmed... suffocated, by our own environment.
Stuff! Do we need it? I've come to the realisation that I might have been a millionaire (or at least have lots more money than I currently have) - had I not blown so much on stuff! And invested it instead.
Stuff that I had to throw away and dump anyway... B-(
You live and learn.
I love my space.
Where that cupboard was, there is a mirror, that for the first time is not obscured by a pile of objects. There is place for me and my daughters to stand in front of that, and get a full view of ourselves. Very desirable for a woman to see her whole self!
I wish I had known many years ago what I am now learning about the value of space.
I'd rather be in a spacious home in an average area, than in a pokey box in an upmarket complex; I'm grateful I have a choice.
Now the trick is to keep getting rid of the excess stuff, before it comes clutter...
To make room for something new, get rid of something else. And leave an area open - to move, to breathe, to live.
There are more kinds of space: Headspace - boy, can one fill that with unnecessary garbage! - you need to be discerning. And that, too, requires a major springclean from time to time. Best you do it every day ... techniques like 'the morning pages' help here.
And time - which relates to headspace, really. Because whatever you have in your diary needs to be done by you - and you are most effective when your head is in your schedule!
And if your schedule is too busy, it will require some prioritizing. Just like the stuff in your closet. Get rid of what you don't want - dump it or delegate it.
And have ample space to live. B-)
