Opportunity Cost

I guess my theme for the week has got to be 'Opprtunity Cost' - because as an entrepreneur I never feel productive enough!

Sure, I have learned that in my line of work (developing and trainng workshops) even reading the right material is a very productive activity. It is not about rushing and stressing - but rather about challenging the stress and being able to be relaxed, no matter what I am doing!

After all I am a time managment and EQ author, and so need to set the example. Yet, when business is not coming my way rapidly, despite my marketing efforts, I start second-guessing myself. Am I on the right track? Would it help to be just a little more 'focussed' ? What the heck - I'm focussed enough. I've had a time in my life where I was on a roll business-wise, but that was where all my attention went - to the detriment of my family.

Ain't doing that again! I enjoy my work, but my family is a priority too. Need to be balanced.

I know I am progressing in my business because I am moving forward every day. It helps to write down my goals and what I've done every day towards their fulfillment. And to recognise the wins along the way.

Eating the elephant bit by bit.

Oh- this was about 'opportunity cost'. Well - that just means using your time to do the best thing at the best time.

You just need to trust you are.

Having goals and priorities helps.
Like when I was studying I never thought I was doing enough - until one day I had earned my degree. Slowly, bit by bit.

Developing and marketing, and getting things in order - bit by bit. Restarting the engine - I reworked my money course today - and am happy with it at last! So looking forward to sharing it with a group on Thursday, and getting advice and feedback from those who work in the various financial industries.

Yip- I could've been working on my accredtitation docs (again!) - or phoning more primary market clients, or... I don't know. I can't think of anything else I could've done better than write up that money course today.

Hopefully for many to learn from, but at least, for myself. It's about personal development .

The world's wealthiest investor, Warren Buffet says, 'If you can't manage your emotions, you won't manage your money'.

That is - Being In Tune with emotions means being In Tune with money. A great note to end on!

So just DO, without getting too emotional about the 'opportunty cost'. B-)

Space

Recently I have discovered the value of space like never before...

I cleared out an entire wardrobe (because it was full of woodborer ... shhh don't tell a soul - oops now you know). And in the process I chucked out more than half of my possessions contained therein. I gave them away, I threw out the papers, and the documents; I gave away some sentimental stuff and many clothes .

It was an exercise in prioritzing. And it was sooo therapeutic!
The cupboard was torn down. I'm grateful for that woodborer.

Sometimes it takes unbearable discomfort to change out habits. To throw out what we accumulate over the years. We don't need it , but we think we might - someday. So we live in a somewhat oppressed state - kinda feeling overwhelmed... suffocated, by our own environment.

Stuff! Do we need it? I've come to the realisation that I might have been a millionaire (or at least have lots more money than I currently have) - had I not blown so much on stuff! And invested it instead.
Stuff that I had to throw away and dump anyway... B-(

You live and learn.

I love my space.
Where that cupboard was, there is a mirror, that for the first time is not obscured by a pile of objects. There is place for me and my daughters to stand in front of that, and get a full view of ourselves. Very desirable for a woman to see her whole self!

I wish I had known many years ago what I am now learning about the value of space.

I'd rather be in a spacious home in an average area, than in a pokey box in an upmarket complex; I'm grateful I have a choice.

Now the trick is to keep getting rid of the excess stuff, before it comes clutter...
To make room for something new, get rid of something else. And leave an area open - to move, to breathe, to live.

There are more kinds of space: Headspace - boy, can one fill that with unnecessary garbage! - you need to be discerning. And that, too, requires a major springclean from time to time. Best you do it every day ... techniques like 'the morning pages' help here.

And time - which relates to headspace, really. Because whatever you have in your diary needs to be done by  you - and you are most effective when your head is in your schedule!

And if your schedule is too busy,  it will require some prioritizing. Just like the stuff in your closet. Get rid of what you don't want - dump it or delegate it.

And have ample space to live. B-)

Let's pay tribute to the entrepreneur

Happy New Year!

Once you have the entrepreneurial mindset it is difficult to ever think like an employee again. Sometimes I wish I could be as I used to be when I had a job: my last paid position being in 1995!
 (20th anniversary this year :-) )

When I had a job, I could do a day's work, then go home and shut my mind off from the day's activities, secure in the knowledge that there was a paycheck at the end of the month.

As an entrepreneur, I'm continuously having to be thinking of ways to be more creative, of  new ideas. It's become a way of life.We are generally not able to rest on our laurels, or become complacent - because around the corner may be a new set of circumstances to deal with.

Entrepreneurs have only themselves to reply on, and if they don't do what it takes to become successful, they can't expect anyone else to do it for them. We need to be leaders because our actions are our brand, but we don't always feel like being out there!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who suffers from call reluctance: there are a lot of reasons to procrastinate -  about making phonecalls, but once I make them and get those appointments and keep meeting people, I know I am on the right track to making a positive difference with my offerings.

This year I really want to be proud of being an entrepreneur, and not have call reluctance! Entrepreneurs are the future. Job creation depends on its quality.

Isn't it time we welcomed and supported those who choose to make a living though their own personal initiative?

Let's support each other as entrepreneurs, instead of trying to outdo our 'competitors'. We are all unique, and there is more than enough business to go round .
Let's start with an attitude of abundance: Like I am truly grateful for the precious supporters and like minded friends I have.

May you grow bolder and prosper in 2015! B-)
